Wednesday Devotional: Too Close To The Mirror
Too Close To The Mirror
(recorded by Eddie Ruth Bradford)
CHORUS
GUESS I'M TOO CLOSE TO THE MIRROR
TO SEE WHAT YOU SEE
WHILE YOU SHOWER DOWN YOUR BLESSING
YOUR BLESSING ON ME
NOT ANYTHING I DONE LORD
FOR AS I CAN SEE
GUESS I'M TOO CLOSE TO THE MIRROR
TO SEE WHAT YOU SEE IN ME
VERSE
SOMETIME I THINK ABOUT THE THINGS
YOU HAVE DONE FOR ME
HOW YOU WASHED AWAY ALL MY SINS
SET MY SPIRIT FREE
THEN I LOOK BACK ON MY LIFE
I HAVEN'T ALWAYS DONE RIGHT
STILL GOODNESS AND MERCY FOLLOW ME
EVERYDAY OF MY LIFE
I BELIEVE I'M TOO CLOSE TO THE MIRROR
CHORUS
WHEN I THOUGHT ABOUT GIVING UP
YOU SAID TRUST IN ME
IF YOU HOLD ON AND FAINT NOT
KEEP YOUR FAITH IN ME
LORD YOU DON'T SEE ME LIKE I AM
YOU SEE ME LIKE I'M GONNA BE
SO I BELIEVE I'LL RUN ON
AND SEE WHAT THE END WILL BE
HALLELUJAH, I'M TOO CLOSE TOO
THE MIRROR TO SEE WHAT YOU SEE
WHILE YOU SHOWER DOWN YOUR BLESSING
YOUR BLESSING ON ME
NOT ANYTHING I DONE LORD
FOR AS I CAN SEE
GUESS I'M TOO CLOSE TO THE MIRROR
TO SEE WHAT YOU SEE IN ME
CHORUS
HALLELUJAH, I'M TOO CLOSE TOO
THE MIRROR TO SEE WHAT YOU SEE
WHILE YOU SHOWER DOWN YOUR BLESSING
YOUR BLESSING ON ME
NOT ANYTHING I DONE LORD
FOR AS I CAN SEE
GUESS I'M TOO CLOSE TO THE MIRROR
TOO CLOSE TO THE MIRROR, TOO CLOSE TO THE MIRROR
TO SEE WHAT YOU SEE IN ME

4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

John 3:30
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
(KJV)
When your love of self makes you get too close to the mirror…you can’t see what God is doing for you or to you. This is a problem with many American Christians. We were raised as rugged individuals. It’s all about us. We don’t think about the other person. When we are that pressed over ourselves…we don’t even really think about God other than what He can do for us.
Here is the funny part though.
God can read your mind.
(You could read his mind too…if you would read His Word.)
He knows when you really love Him. He also knows when he comes in third or fourth or even fifth.
For this reason God will continue to push and pressure you until…you really give up, surrender and put Him first.
Here is a great way to avoid all the drama. You can avoid a Job like experience. Back away from the mirror. Pray for God to give you a heart of humility.
Regardless of the journeys length…it begins with one small step.
