Exod 16:25-26

25        And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.

26        Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

(KJV)

We have freedom in Christ.  We no longer have to legalistically follow the Sabbath.  In fact the Sabbath was a type or shadow of Christ himself.  In Jesus we rest from our works and trust and rest in Him and what He has already done for us(on the cross).  So the Sabbath is no longer a day on the calendar.

While the Sabbath is no longer a legalistic requirement, there is still a practical and spiritual benefit.

Your car needs a tune up.

Your house needs spring cleaning.

On your job, sometimes you have to stop working and get training.  (Many jobs have annual requirements.)

One day a week, some of us take time to get our nails, toes, hair, dry cleaning and weekly chores accomplished.

If your working out steadily, your body sometimes need a break.

Renewal is a requirement for good health and good organizational health.

When we don’t take time to renew, things get disorderly and eventually they break down.

The same is true in the Spirit.  If you don’t take time to renew, to fellowship, to study and to help others…then don’t be surprised if you go thru a spiritual crisis.

Everything in life needs a Sabbath.

Your body needs a Sabbath.

Your professional career needs a Sabbath.

Your mind needs a Sabbath.(If you have been using it.)

Your Spirit needs a Sabbath.

Eph 5:15-21
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
(KJV)
