Thursday Devotional: When We Pray
John 14:13-14
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
KJV
1 Kings 3:5-12
5 In
6 And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7 And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
10 And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
11 And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
KJV
James 4:3
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
KJV
I believe that many times we have the wrong attitude about prayer.
God’s will is not denied whether you are obedient or not.
God will do what He will do.
God has a historical pattern of how He delivers, prospers, heals and anoints people. A core ingredient to God’s pattern or plan is prayer. God will send an Earthly Angel to pray at the beginning, at the middle and at the end of His Redemption or His Miracle.
When we make decisions to pray…we are not doing God a favor.
When we make decisions to pray…we are not even doing our brother a favor.
When we pray for others…we are making a decision to be part of God’s Eternal Greatness.
When we pray for others, we stop becoming a spectator and we become part of God’s workmanship.
When we pray, it’s like taking the court as part of Michael Jordan’s team. He will do the work, you just need to do your small part. Someone will stand there and take the wide open shot. We must ask, do we want to be the one?
When we pray, it’s like coaching THE DREAM TEAM in the 1992 Olympics. Yes, you may call a play but the victory is already assured. Whoever is coaching The Dream Team will win. The coach just has to participate.
When we pray, it’s like Ed McMahon introducing Johnny Carson. The show will go on with us or without us but someone will say, “Here’s Johnny!!!” If Ed McMahon had never showed up, someone would have gotten famous off of introducing Johnny Carson.
When we pray, it’s like being a US Electorate in our Presidential Voting System. Electorates have a simple mission, to represent the people of the state that voted for their pledged candidate at the US Electoral College. When selected to become an electorate, the only question is, “Do they want to become part of history?”
When we pray in God’s Will for others, we are truly blessing ourselves.
We don’t pray to deliver people.
We pray as part of the foundational step to God’s Deliverance for His People.
Are you on board?
Then Pray.
It's an HONOR, not a DUTY.
