Tuesday Devotional: The Alarm Clock and the Mattress
Hebrews 4:2
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
2 Timothy 3:16
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
1 Corinthians 13:8
8 Love never faileth:
The Word of God is like an alarm clock. It wakes you up and warns you in the darkness. The Word of God tells you that the Son is about to rise. The Word of God squelches, “WAKKKKEEEEEUUUPPPPPPPP”, in a sometimes painful manner.
The Word of God by itself is not enough. It takes love and faith to get you off your mattress. Love of your family. Love of your co-workers that need you to show up. Love of your vocation. Love of your church. Faith is needed to get you up as well. Faith is needed in the belief that you will be paid if you show up. Faith is needed in the belief that you can be promoted. Faith is needed in the belief that “if you do what you have to do, you can do what you want to do.”
Spiritually it takes love and faith to change. The Word of God points to the need for change.
